anybody familiar with using google as group discussion online?

I believe so. I use google hangout which is video. And it can have multiple people. The most was about 6 but could probably have more. And even during video, say if audio is bad like I was at a loud coffee shop, others can talk normally while I can use the side text and it'll pop up on screen.
