No tradition for us as a family either. We go to church on xmas eve then open presents when we get home or whenever we feel like it. I normally wait til after midnite. Always wanted to see how chubby santa is.

Then it must have been 12:01 when I opened...I think in the US most ppl open their gifts on xmas day...but tradition can be set depending on family.
