Cast: Wu Zun, Charlene Choi, and Hu Ge
Director: Jingle Ma
Can I say that Jingle tried to make the story too sweet and sad that it wasn't? It was too forced. After watching it, the chemistry between Wu Zun and Charlene is decent but I just wasn't touched at all especially the ending, the climax of the story. Charlie Yeung in the previous version did an amazing job at delivering the sorrow, the love, the pain but Charlene, just some pouts. And to top it off, I started laughing when Wu Zun carried Charlene's supposedly dead body to a plot of land and dug a grave for them and then threw out blood and died. Then Charlene wakes up and tells him to wait for her and also dies. They died together. I guess, Jingle changed the whole ending, making them die together so that the movie will be sadder? Well, surely didn't work because I was laughing.
Anyway, the director for the previous version was Tsui Hark afterall, Jingle cannot compare to the little details, the intricate sad scenes that Tsui Hark grabs the audience with. I have to say, this version doesn't live up to the old version at all despite the beautiful colors, scenery, and technology plus famous leads.
