Poverty is the state for the majority of the world’s people and nations. Why is this? Is it enough to blame poor people for their own predicament? Have they been lazy, made poor decisions, and been solely responsible for their plight? What about their government? Have they pursued policies that actually harm successful development? Such causes of poverty and inequality are no doubt real.

you know, in some cases, i do believe it's the person's fault, like excess spending, etc., but in a lot of the cases, i do feel sorry for the person, because maybe it's the country they're in and the limits for them educationally and status-wise, and because so many are just born into a cycle of poverty and it's extremely difficult to rise out of it...

Yes some are just born poor and its not their fault. Even in America poverty exists but we spend time helping other countries so that the focus would not be on us but rather on the third world countries. I don't think that poverty can ever be eliminated either. Its rooted to deep into society and is a controversial issue. Many politicians say that we need to and should do something to eliminate poverty but I don't think that there will ever be a day when Poverty does not exist.

Personnally, i think that Canada is the best in this. I mean , the government help people in the trouble compare to everywhere else like United State or something closer : Thailand, where people died because they don't have money for surgery or medication. I don't know what happen with the government ?

I think poverty is a tricky issue. I agree with Annie, in that some times, it's really difficult to rise out of it. Take for instance, the caste system in India. If you're born in the bottom, you're never going to rise out of it because of the social expectations and preconceived notions.

It is also true that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Everyday, the gap widens. People in developed countries make on average about 75 times more than people in third world countries. I think the problem of class separation is most troubling inside the poorer countries.

There is also the argument that geography affects the success of nations and their economies: warm-climate countries are less likely to be prosperous than their temperate-climate counterparts. This falls in line with the fact that countries closer to the equator have fewer resources, have less access to transportation, and so forth. I'm not sure if I quite believe it, but if you look at Latin America, Africa, and South Asia, you kind of have to think hard on it. *fly*

most poor ppl are ppor not their fault. most caused by their older generations. most older generation do not bother to work for more money as they work till they have enough to spend and family. they do not bother to save that much. this caused the younger genreations to have problem using money to make more money. thus those who are saving alot to benefit. without money, you cannot make more money in most part of this world. of course, there are also other reasons, like gambling, excess spending, business failures, poor family, country, etc...

Poverty is such a big issue in our world. Many people starve and died every second whilst we sit back and enjoy what we got. I think that we should act. I normally donate money to charity on the occasion for Christmas and Easter when they go around asking for donations. But I do believe that people don't want to be in poverty, but its not der fault. I would say it would be the people who are controlling the country and making all the decisions. But with all our help and support POVERTY would be GONE! But i do think that some people should appreciate what they have in life instead of asking for more.
Australia says NO TO POVERTY!
