Chinese always have big controversy. It's always this and that, gosh communism. lol I mean look at their series and some of their other movies, they have extreme sex scene too and the kiss isn't conservative at all.
And now she's the one thats banned and not Tony? lol They shouldn't been a hypocrite because if they banned one, they should ban anyone who does sex scene.

Anyway, seems like Tony and Tang Wei did engage in real sex but um, I fast forwarded those scenes so um, not really sure either.
But the whole controversy is silly. China is always finding excuses to ban someone or something. Anyway, the Mainland Chinese feel like the movie was a blow to China's patriotic ego, showed how weak China was. The Mainland Chinese are still very upset at what happened during the time when Japan took over.
They banned Tang Wei and not Tony is because Tony is Hong Kong, they can't ban him because he's not actually part of Mainland but Tang Wei is.

And I agree that Lust Caution was overrated; I think all the hype came from those sex scenes. I skimmed through it and yes, it looked very real, lol. It could have been camera angling too, so... yeah. But you do see Tony's *ahem*.

That's why Edison said goodbye to the Hong Kong Industry but can still produce Mandarin albums and films in Taiwan and China.
Tang Wei is Mainland Chinese as for Tony, he's Hong Kong, it's different. Mainland China really can't touch Tony. So what if they ban Tony too! Tony doesn't directly rely on Mainland to make a living. It would have been a joke on the Chinese government if they banned Tony because it wouldn't make any sense. But Tang Wei does. The companies that hire Tang Wei are from Mainland China which abide to Mainland China laws and communist government. Hong Kong, though filled with mafias but at least they semi still have a voice not like China, even forums can be shut down just because the government feels the need to.
Tang Wei will definitely stay in Hong Kong and enter Hollywood I assume.
