Taksin used the law to help him keep more of his money but honestly alot of these dirty politicans who complained do the same thing (sure on a smaller scale) so I can't really take them seriously. Plus it maybe wrong morally (depending on your definition) but it is definately legal so there is that.
When Taksin decleared his war on drugs, there is no doubt in my mind that there was excessive force. As a matter of fact the international community really came down hard on his ass. The thing for me is, Thailand has a serious drug problem and I am ok with the tough take on the traffickers. Asian countries/socities are especially more susceptible to these drugs then the West because of the lack of funds for rehibilitation and drug use is more interlinked with a family's reputation in a society. I personally agree with the zero tolerance.
