(CNN) -- Rescue teams on Friday found the wreckage of a plane that crashed Thursday night in the mountains of Venezuela, but none of the 46 people aboard survived, a searcher said.

Relatives of passengers on board the flight wait for news Thursday at the desk of Santa Barbara Airlines.

"The impact was direct. The aircraft is practically pulverized," firefighter Jhonny Paz told Globovision, a privately owned Venezuelan television station. "There are no survivors."

There was no word on the cause of the crash.

Witnesses saw the Santa Barbara Airlines plane go down, according to Antonio Rivero, Venezuela's national director of civil protection.

Harsh weather and rough terrain in the Andes Mountains likely will make the job of emergency workers difficult, Rivero said on a state-run television station.

The plane went missing while flying from Merida to the international airport near Caracas, an official said.

The pilot did not check in with controllers 20 minutes into the flight, as scheduled, suggesting the plane encountered problems shortly after takeoff.

Nelson Marquez, chief of civil defense for Merida, said the plane was carrying 43 passengers and three crew members.

Media reports said the Santa Barbara Airlines plane was supposed to land about 7 p.m. local time

OMG i didnt even know there was a plane crash that show how much i've been watching the new. i fell for there familys

It must have been a long minute of horrifying feeling before they all crash, I feel so sad for them its scary to be drop from the atmosphere.

yeh god i don't think i want to go to thailand by planr now but it must be hard to see which person is which

I still want to go to Thailand though, flying is a fun thing of traveling, just pray and hope that the fly goes smoothly and you are at your destination safely. I hope they all RIP

lol but do you have to sit in a plane for 18 hrs.but i have to go to find a sch

Aww it takes about 9 hr and abit for me with no stop. My worst flight I ever had was last year, flying from Krabi to BKK. I swear I thought I would have died because it was raining and the plane fell through the clouds!

lol that was like when i flew to france even though it was like less the an hour flight it was so cloudy and i was ant the back of the plane i swear i nearly died .

wow that's such sad news. As horrifying as it was for the victims, the families must be devastated

Hope they RIP, it's scary to think about but I guess it was their time to go.

It's a very sad news but in the same time I also think like Pam !
If it's your time to go, you can't do anything against it...so even you use plane or other transport you must go.

These times there are lot of plane crash but don't forget that plane is one of the most secure transport...it just makes more noises because when an accident happened lot of people die in the same time, but compare to car accidents it's almost nothing.
