Part 97:

Lift couldn’t sit still in the car as May drove them back to Bangkok.

“You have ants in your pant or something?” she asked with annoyance.

He stopped moving and looked over to her. “I’m just a little worried.”

“Good, you should be.” May hinted. “You know everything’s the way it is because of your own doing. If you haven’t gotten involve with Prae in the first place, we don’t be where we’re at right now.”

“It’s not like I did it on purpose. It was an accident. I was drunk,” Lift explained.

“Are all men that way? Blame everything on alcohol when something goes wrong,” May rolled her eyes with disgust.

Lift drew in a deep breath and held his cool. “Look, we’re both tired and frustration with all of this. But we shouldn’t be arguing here. We need to think of a solution for this.”

May exhaled loudly. “You’re right, sorry.” She glanced at the signs on the road. They were about an hour away from home. “I think if we talked to her about the news, Luktarn would believe us, right? I’m sure she knows there’s no way we would have anything romantic going on.” She paused. “But how are you going explain the cheating on her part? Because that’s why reason for following you around.”

“I don’t know,” Lift said slowly. Fear very noticeably in his eyes.

May turn to look at him slightly. If it had been someone else, she would have told them ‘serve you right’ but this is was Lift. He was her ride to a comfortable life. He had power in the business but so weak when it came to the game of lust.

“Don’t worry too much, it might not be as bad,” she said finally.

Lift nodded and closed his eyes to clear his thoughts. He didn’t know what he was going to do about the situation but one thing he knew for sure. There was no way he was going to lose Luktarn. He loved her too much not to be with her. And the point of losing her was only an hour away.
* * *

After their meals, Oil kept his words and took Aum shopping along the street vendors.

“Wow,” Aum said with excitement as she hopped from one vendor to the next. There were many interesting homemade items for sale.

“Are you Oil Thana?” a sales lady asked Oil. Aum turned to look at him. He gave her a sheepish smile and nodded. “May we get a shot with you?” she then asked.

He looked over to Aum. She grinned. “Sure,” he answered.

The sales lady’s smile shined with happiness. She hurried around the counter and took a few shot with him and of him. A little crowd gathered around him. But Oil didn’t seem to mind. They took turns taking pictures and hurried away when they were done.

“Khun P’,” a young girl in her early teen asked Aum. “Are you P’Oil girlfriend, the one that’s in the news with him?” Aum didn’t know what to say and just smiled. “You’re really pretty, prettier than in the papers.” Aum let out a small, embarrassed giggle. “Do you mind if I took a picture of you with P’Oil?” she asked but didn’t wait around for Aum to answer.

She hurried to Oil and must have asked him the same questions because a few moments later he walked over.

“How about a couple of shots for the fans, honey?” he said softly.

‘Honey?’ Aum repeated to herself. He actually called her honey? She was too shocked to reply.

He took her hand and walked her back to the crowd. The group ‘woo’ at them. They were excited to take pictures of the hot couple.

Through the whole celebrity moment, Oil held onto her hand firmly. For some strange reason, that gave her confidence to smile for the cameras.
* * *

“Nin, Nin!” Luktarn called for her maid.

“Yes?” Nin called on the way. “You need something?”

“Do you know what’s wrong with the TV?” Luktarn asked with the remote control in her hand.

“I don’t know,” Nin lied. But she had unhooked the TV the minute she hung up the phone with May. “I had it on this morning, must have blown a fuse or something.”

“That’s strange. It’s fairly new.” Luktarn commented. “Have you called someone to look at it, yet?”

“Ugh,” Nin scratched her head. “No, not yet.”

“Then what are you waiting for? Go get someone. Isn’t there a repair shop at the front of our neighborhood?” Luktarn insisted. She thought for a second. “Ah’Chump, yeah that’s it. Go get Ah’Chump.”

“Uh-Uh…” Nin hesitated.

“Nin…” Luktarn demanded with hands on her hips.

“Ok, going right now,” Nin had no choice.

“Hurry,” Luktarn insisted.

Leaving the house, Nin was panicking as she walked toward the gates. She didn’t know what to do. She didn’t want to go get the repair guy. There was nothing wrong with the TV. Yet she couldn’t let Luktarn turn on the TV. She would see the news. She paced back and forth unsure of what to do.

Luktarn flipped the remote a couple of times to see if it would turn on. But nothing happened. Irritated, she set it down and walked over to the TV. She pressed the button. Still nothing.

“What’s wrong with you?” Luktarn said under her breath and tapped it on the back a little.

She’d seen people do that to get something started. She pressed the button again, and still nothing. She took a few steps back and scratched her head. She stood there awhile before went out to wait for Nin on the front porch.

Nin walked around the corner and called May on the phone. “Hello, Khun May, I don’t know what to do. I unplugged the TV and now she wants me to find someone to repair it. What should I do?” Nin summarized the situation for her.

“What TV? What are you talking about?” May questioned.

“Well, you told me to get rid of anything that would have the news on it, well I unplugged the TV so Miss Luktarn wouldn’t see the news,” Nin explained. “Now’s she thinks the TV’s broken and told me to get a repair guy to fix it.”

“Uh, uh,” May didn’t know what to say. “Stall it, stall some time.”

“How?” Nin asked.

“I don’t know, walk around the block a couple of times.” May insisted. “Make some time for us. We’re almost there, like 30-40 minutes away.”

“Oh, ok,” Nin nodded. “But please hurry. I don’t want to keep her waiting too long.”

“I’m trying,” May grinded her teeth.

Meanwhile:

Luktarn look at the time. “What is taking her so long?” she wondered. She got up from the rocking chair and tip toed to see over the fences. But there was no sign of Nin anywhere. She turned around and glared at the TV again and wonder she if should take another look at it. It wouldn’t hurt any to try again.

“Oh why not,” she decided finally and walked back inside the house.

Part 98:

Aum was quite surprise, the people were kind enough to let them carry on when Oil asked them to.

“That’s what I admire about country folks,” Maurice commented, “So kind and understanding.”

“They sure are,” Aum agreed.

“So where to now my lady?” Oil asked bowing his head like a gentleman.

“Well,” Aum hesitated. “Is there like a public rest room around here?” Oil looked at her with the corners of his eyes. “What?” she questioned. “I’m only human.”

“I’m going there. I can take you if you don’t mind,” the girl from behind the counter blurted. They turned around and looked at her. She smiled a shy one. “I over heard you guys talking about a rest room.”

Aum flashed a smile. “That would be nice.”

“We’ll wait right here,” Oil told her. “And hurry it up,” he whispered to her when she walked by. She wrinkled her nose at his remarks and hurried after the girl.

Aum did her business quickly and hurried out. Washing her hand she looked at her reflection. “Err,” she gasped. Her face was so oily. She grabbed a couple of tissue papers and wiped her face quickly. She folded up the rest of paper, tucked it in her back pocket, and hurried out.

*Thud* she ran into someone. Her little body bounced back and landed on the dirt ground.

“Goodness, are you ok?” a deep voice asked her. She looked up at the dark figure hovering over her.

“I’m ok,” she got up quickly dusting herself off. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t see you.” Then she looked him over. She didn’t know how, he was a pretty big guy. She turned red in the face, embarrassed.

“Are you sure, do you want to sit down first?” he offered.

She protested. “I’m fine, thanks.”

“Hey Nott!” a voice called their direction.

The guy in front of her looked up and and waved. “Pai hey! What you long enough!.”

“Pai?” Aum’s eyebrows jerked up. She placed her hand over her eyes, pretending to block the sun when she looked. To her surprise it was her half brother Pai. ;) She quickly turned away. “Uh, you don’t want to keep your friend waiting. I’m fine. Thanks,” she said in a hurry and quickly rushed into the crowd before Pai could see her.

“Who was that?” Pai asked the minute he got there.

“Who?” Nott asked.

“That girl I saw you talking to. She looks like a cutie,” Pai insisted.

“Oh her, I don’t know. Just someone I bumped into,” Nott replied. Then he scratched his chin. “But come to think about, she does look a little familiar.”

“Did you get a name?” Pai asked.

Nott shook his head slowly. Now the more he thought about it the more her face looked familiar.

“Too bad,” Pai patted him on the back.

“Anyways,” Nott rolled his eyes. “Let’s get down to business talk eh?”

“Sure, lead the way,” Pai insisted.
* * *

“Hey, took you longer enough,” Maurice said. “We were about to go after you.” Aum wasn’t paying attention to what he was saying. “Hey, Patcharapa, did you hear me?”

“Huh? What you say?” she asked but her eyes were roaming around.

“What’s wrong with you?” Maurice frowned.

“Oh, it’s nothing,” Aum replied quickly.

“Well, let’s go then,” Oil said and took her by the hand. Then stopped. “You’re hand…it’s icy cold.” He looked at her. “You sure, you’re ok?”

She gave him a weak smile and nodded her head. He drew in a deep breath, cupped both her hands in his and blew in it. She stood numbed as she watched him rubbed her hands together with his to give her warmth.

“Feel better?” he asked.

She could feel her cheeks heating up. She gave him a shy smile and nodded, avoiding his eyes. He rubbed her hands together a couple times before letting go.

“I guess we should head back then.” He suggested.

Maurice exhaled and looked thru his bags. “I guess.”

“Come on,” he said to Aum and wrapped his arm around her shoulder and escorted her back to the car.

“Sure, I’m just nobody,” Maurice mocked them after. “Don’t ask me if I need help carrying these bags. They’re not heavy at all.”

“Hurry up Maurice. I don’t know if anyone around here would give a ride to a dark person,” Oil threatened.

“Don’t you dare leave without me!” Maurice called after them.

Part 99:

Luktarn banged the side of the TV a couple of time and still there were no pictures. She stood back, crossing her arms, examining it for awhile. Then she snapped her fingers.

“The wires,” she muttered. She hadn’t tried jiggling them, yet. They could be loose.

She began moving the photo around the entertainment system and set them aside. Then she leaned under the flat screen and reached under it to get the plug. She gave it a little jiggle and made sure it was secure in the TV socket before turning it on again. Still no pictures.

She let out a sigh and reached behind there again. This time she slightly moved the TV so she can see the whole back view. Then she saw the problem. She pulled the plug up.

“How did that get unhooked?” she wondered. She shook her head, drew in a deep breath, reached down and plugged the plug in the wall socket. “There,” she said as she dust her hands off and clicked on the TV. The TV turned on instantly. She smiled and flipped on channel 7. She turned up the volume and began putting the photos back in its place.

“Reporters are still outside the hotel. Security is tight. They’re not letting anyone inside. No one knows how the story’s going to unfold. Neither May or Lift has come out to tell their side of the stories.”

“May and Lift?” Luktarn repeated and walked to the center of the TV.

“So far we’ll asked the clerk at the front desk and they’ve confirmed that the two did book separate rooms but how they ended up like what the reporters capture, no one can say.”

The frame in her hand slipped from her fingers when she saw the pictures on the screen. May and Lift in bed together. Her breathing grew heavy as her heart began to beat fast as she stared at the pictures.

“Everyone’s wondering where is Luktarn. Did she come too? So far, no one has seen her or does she even know about this. Well if she doesn’t, she does now.”

She stumbled back a couple of steps and changed the channel. It seem like she couldn’t get away from it. It was also on another one.

“What’s going on here?” she gasped, as tears glistened in her eyes and turned the TV off.

She sat down heavily on the sofa. Now she knew why the newspaper was missing and the TV not working. Nin was trying to hide this from her. She wiped the tears that fell from her eyes. How could they do that to her? The two people she loved and trusted with her life. How could they hurt her this way? She closed her eyes and tried to make sense of things. But she came up empty handed.

She stood up abruptly and went into her room. She pulled her hair back in a ponytail, put on a baseball cap and a pair of shades. She didn’t know where she was going, but she knew she did not want to be home. She grabbed bag and keys and hurried out of the house.
* * *

“What are you doing?” Oil demanded in a loud tone.

Aum nearly dropped the lettuce in hand. “I was thinking about chicken salad for dinner tonight.” She replied softly.

He walked over to her and raise up his hand. Aum closed her eyes and curled up like a little frightened kitten. To her surprise, he just placed his hand on her forehead and then on her cheek. She slowly opened her eyes.

“You’re not feeling well weren’t you?” he asked.

She shook her head, “Said who?”

He ignored her. “Give me that.” He took the lettuce from her and walked over to the sink. He began rinsing it. Aum stood there confused. “What are you standing there for?” he asked.

“Uh, I…I…” she uttered.

“Go sit down, I’ll be the cook tonight.” He said.

“HUH?” Aum’s mouth dropped open.

He turned off the water, wiped his hands and walked over to her. “I said go sit down out there,” he pointed to the couch in the living room. “I’ll make dinner tonight.” He leaned forward. “Is that clear enough for you?” She leaned backward and nodded quickly. He put both hands on her shoulders and spun her around. Then she guided her to the doorway. “Now go.” He gave a little push.

Aum scratched her head as she walked to the couch. She looked down the hallway before sitting down.

“Well, that’s something new,” Maurice commented from behind the magazine he was reading, “cooking for someone else.”

Aum smiled to herself. She could feel her face burning up. She never thought there would be day where a guy would make her dinner. But not only that, she would have never thought that it would be Oil, the big, stubborn Thai Super Star. Then again, her life has change drastically ever since she’s met him.

“Uh-huh, I see that smile,” Maurice interrupted her thought with his teasing voice.

Aum sent him a shy laugh. *blah* “I’m going to wash up.” She said and got up quickly.

“The bathroom to your right dear,” Maurice called after.

Aum stopped instantly and turned around with a cheesy smile. ;) “That’s right. I forgot.” She said and hurried way in the right direction to the bathroom.
