this is hard to judge, just because they're are some that really choose to become homeless and there are others who happen to be somewhere at a bad time. I dont know its a touchy issue cause you deal with it everyday when you see them under a bridge or on a corner holding up a sign. You just dont know if they are really homeless. There was story out there where they mention that some homeless who holds those sign make up couple of thousand a month... ya its hard to believe that there is that much homeless in america. Also it makes you wonder why america likes to help other countries so much, instead they should start on their own.

But at the same time, some of those homeless or always in need of cash are some of the peoples that only look for handout, lazy and think that the whole World owe them something.
OK, I'm not being prejudice or anything, but some of those redneck always like to complaints that the minority take away their jobs, invaded their home, etc. But at the same time, they hardly get off their butt and their beer-belly to lift a finger, let alone go out look for a decent job.
At the same time many Asian came to this Country, because they considered this is the land of opportunity and it for the future of their children, yet they don't stride to better themselves, nor teach their children the value of making a better life for themselves. Some just drop out of school, join gangs etc.
Same goes for the African-American, they think their ancient once was a slave, now the White owe them.... blah, blah, blah.
Anyway you guys probably get my grip and know what where I'm going with this... so enough said.
No one can better yourself for you, if you don't better yourself and make something good of yourself.

OK, this is just my opinion, not trying to offense anyone... so take it as point value, don't have to go crazy and attack me on it. *sig* *rll* *em:P*

No, but some of them got poor because their wife or something must have been in critical situation. Using all their money to pay for hospital bill and stuff.

My proefessor met one guy like this situation and his wife die of cancer. He was pretty happy with his life now.

This is sad.

I hate people who lied though. I hate going to Chicago because there are so many people there. Every year I go there, it's the same old people there asking for money. I hate to see that but I hate when they lied.

One of my sis's friend said that he never gave money out to those poor asking for mony because one time, he gave a $20 for one guy came asking for him. The next minute, he saw that guy running to buy some weed. *lol!*

a lot of homeless people are war veterans who have been permanently scarred from all the horrors of war. this causes many to have mental illnesses, and can no longer function in a normal work place, or cope with socialization. they loose their families because they become dissociated, and end up on the streets. and there are other people that are not vets, but are schizo or sociopaths, so they can't hold down a job. it's really sad *em:P*

I agree with Fantasy Fanatic, there are a lot of lazy people who all they do is complain, if you don't stand up for yourself who's gonna? Money's not gonna come to your door, you're gonna have to strive for it!! They have shelters for the homeless and they even help you find a job! Some of them homeless I see out there are young and look like drugies!! Today I saw a guy holding a sign up and on the ground I saw a coffee cup from Starbuck's, if I didn't have that much money I think I would've got my coffee at the gas station!! I mean I do hand some money to those who really looked like they were homeless, more older people than young ones cause them young ones can go find a job!!!

well, lazy ppl deserve it, but there are ppl who choose to be homeless themselves and those who have no choice. some are caused by natural disasters and they did not buy insurance for their home.

aww this is really to have so much people homeless!! I think that they should think more beside buying things or using it for activities such as gambling - which is a major issue. but i would say some would have losted der home by natural hazards without paying insurance for der home, so its not covered if ders any damage!

that's quite a huge number.

my soc. professor told me that most of the homeless are war veterans, who are handicap. <--- that's why they can never find jobs. it's quite sad how these went overseas to fight for us, but in the end they don't get the same respect here.

i always see the homeless waiting at street corners or highways holding a sign, asking for spare change. sometimes i wonder if they're imposters trying to freeload off of us. i don't really know, so i still give them money bc i feel bad for them.
