Veteran actress Naovarat "Jik" Yuktanan has certainly chosen the perfect time to publish her autobiography, and the title is terrific: "Krai Wa Cheewit Jik Rai Rabiab", which means "Who says my life lacks order?"
The pun is superb. Rabiab means "orderly" and it's also most of the first name of former senator Rabiabrat Pongpanich, who's now self-appointed Guardian of the National Morals.
A couple of months ago "Je Biab", or "Sister Biab", as the media call her, assailed Jik for telling the world that she thought it would be fine and natural if her sons became playboys.
"There's a movie star with a certain behaviour that everyone knows about," the ex-senator and crusader for "the first wives' club" moaned, "saying in an interview that she wants her sons to be flirting around and have many girlfriends. I couldn't believe that that's what she thinks!
"So I'm not surprised that Jik's marriage failed."
In this fight, everyone was quickly on Jik's side, and she threatened to sue Rabiabrat. Then came a massive surprise: Rabiatrat apologised. It was the first time she'd ever swallowed her words.
By way of accepting the apology, Jik gets to have a good laugh about the fracas every time she appears on TV talk shows. It was the biggest coup in Thailand since last September, after all: Old Stone-face humbled, Jik's popularity reconfirmed, and a terrific set-up for her book launch to boot.
