Chapter 1

It was midnight already when Oil finally glanced up from his computer screen to the clock securely hanging on the wall across from him. He slump back on his chair and sighed exhaustedly. “Finally I’m done!” he rejoiced but the tone of his voice shows much weariness. He’s been working on this project for three nights straight so that he can leave for his vacation. Normally he does not take a vacation when there’s a multi million dollar project but this was a much needed vacation ordered by the boss himself. Oil is a very devoted architect and has been with the company since he graduated with a master from Columbia University. He never come in late nor leaves early. He never calls in sick nor took unnecessary vacation and even when he does take vacation, he always calls into work to see if everything was ok.

Lately things were not ok in his life. He just found out two months ago that his roommate from college died of a heart attack. He was only 30 and had everything going for him; a beautiful fiancé who models for Victoria Secret and a prosperous career in banking. His friend’s death made Oil realize that he isn’t living life as he should but even though he thought that way, he did not ask for a vacation right away. Instead being the usually self, he threw himself into work even more and that was the end of tolerance from his boss. He was ordered to take a 3 month vacation. Of course Oil argued and negotiates the nonsense long vacation down to only 30 days. He actually only wanted a week or two but his boss would not allow him to take lesser, and if he were to argue for less, he would be fired. Oil just laughed at that empty threat and allowed his boss to have his ways. He’s going on a 30 day vacation.

Oil shut down his computer then grabbed his jacket and left his office. He didn’t need to go home because his small bags were already in the trunk of his black BMW convertible. Oil turned off his car alarm with his remote and threw his briefcase on the passenger side and got in. Oil started his car, shift into gear and head north toward Chiang Mai. Now one would wonder, what is there to do in Chiang Mai? People would think he would go south toward the beach or something.

No, Oil wanted to go home. Home where his grandmother lives, where he grew up. Oil hasn’t been back home for a while now and it was long over due. He missed his grandmother, missed the house he grew up in, miss the quietness. His house sits in the middle of 20 acres of an orchid farm.

Oil speed up, excited to get home. He reached over and turns on some music to keep him from falling asleep. He turned to Seed FM as Nat Myria’s new song came on. He sat back and lifts his feet off the gas a little as soothing voice relaxes him.

After driving about a good 20 miles, Oil realized that he needed gas and luckily he was just about to pass a station. Oil slowed his car way down and pulled into the station.

“Hello sir.” The pump boy greeted.

Oil nod in acknowledgement then gave him his credit card, “Full tank please.” He told him.

Oil then got out of the car and went into the little shop to get some snacks and drinks. He bought himself two bottles of water, two bottles of coke, and a couple of different packages of snacks. He wasn’t sure why he would need all this but he bought them anyways. He came back to his car just as the pump boy was finishing up. He tipped the boy and got back into his car. Just as he was pulling out of the gas station, Oil took his eye off the road just for a split second to grab the bottle of water when he heard a scream then felt his car hit something or someone. He slammed on the break and quickly got out of the car.

Lying in front of his car on the road was a young girl in a white dress, not moving. Without hesitation, he reached for her. She was as cold as ice! He started to shake her, “khun! Khun! Are you ok?”, but the girl did not move. He then quickly scoop her up in his arms and ran to the passenger side of his car. He open the car door and put her into the passenger side. He lowered down the seat and slammed the door shut.

“Where is the nearest hospital?!” he shouted to the pump boy who stood there scratching his head.

The pump boy did not verbally answered, just pointed north. Oil shook his head and quickly got into the car and head north.

As he was driving, he kept looking at the unmoving girl in the passenger side of his car. “khun! Khun!” he kept calling out to her but she would not budge.

Oil look around, and there was no blood on her, as a matter of fact, her clothes was still very clean. Oil sighed in frustration and began to look for the hospital that was no where in site for the past mile, mile and a half. “Where is the damn hospital!” he gritted annoyingly from his teeth just as the girl began to moan and stir.

Oil quickly pulled over to the side of the road and parked his car. “Khun, are you ok?” he asked nervously.

The girl began to sit up, “You don’t have to sit up. I’m taking you to the hospital right now but I can’t seem to find it at the moment.” He rambles on “Are you hurt anywhere? I don’t think I hit you though.”

The girl fully came awake and turn to look at him and her eyes widen and she gasped, “Who are you?!” she shriek then started to panic and look around, “Where am I?”

“Calm down, I won’t hurt you.” He told her but she still wouldn’t stop moving around like a frightened caged puppy. “You came out of no where and screamed. I thought I hit you but I’m sure I didn’t hit you. When I got out of the car, you were passed on the road in front of my car so I was going to take you to the hospital.”

The girl was now dead still but the shock was still on her face. “You’re not hurt right? Do you need go to the hospital?” he asked again and she slowly shook her head. Oil let out a sigh of relief then chuckles nervously. He slump back in his seat, rubbing the back of his neck. He then glance back at her and asked, “Where do you live? I’ll take you home.”

The girl was still silent and then all of a sudden she started to cry and panic, “Oh my god!”

“What? What’s wrong?” he asked.

“Who am I? I don’t know who I am!” She started to cry hysterically.

Oil’s mouth dropped open and stared at her, “What do you mean you don’t know who you are!” he didn’t mean to shout and closed his eyes for a second to calm himself down. When he looks at her again she looks as if she was desperately trying to figure exactly that so he knows she was not lying at all.

“You must have hit your head really hard when you fell.” He told her, “I think you should just lay back down and it’ll come to you in a second.”

The girl still would not stop crying. Her lips were trembling uncontrollably as she twist the edge of her perfectly clean blouse into a knot. “Who am I? Why can’t I remember?” she cried softly.

Oil threw his head back against his seat and massages his temple. What did he get himself into, he asked himself. Why did I take this vacation!

An hour went by, Oil was still nursing his migraine and the girl was still crying but not as much anymore. He turns to look at her and notice her soft pudgy cheeks glistening with tears. The moonlight cast a soft glow on her face, making her look kind of gentle and cute. “Are you ok now? Do you remember anything at all?” he asked quietly.

Her soft eyes shift toward him then she glance down at her hands and sniffled then shook her head gently.

Oil wanted to reach over and caress her cheeks, to wipe the tears from it because there should be no tears on such a precious face. He snapped out of it as he was lifting his hand. He sat up straight and sighed again, “Well then why don’t we go to the police station and see if they know anything ok.” He told her and she nod in agreement.

Oil turn the engine back on then slapped the steering wheel, making her jump a little. “Oh stupid can I be. I don’t even know where the police station is and I’m pretty sure you don’t either right?” he asked and she frowned then started to tear up again. “Oh please don’t cry.” He said quickly then thought for a couple of minute. “How about this, if you trust me that is.” He added and continue when she look at him with questions in her eyes. “I’m heading up to Chiang Mai right now. Why don’t you come along and I’ll have the police up there contact the police here to see if any one file a missing person of your description. Is that good?”

The girl had doubts in her eyes then she sighed and nodded slowly.

“Good.” He said, smiling at her. “You’ll love my grandmother, she’s very sweet but bossy.” He added, trying to get her to smile a little and it worked.

And just as he was about to drive off, he turn to her once more, “You don’t happen to sort of remember your name do you?” he asked and she sadly shook her head, “I didn’t think so. Well then I guess we’ll have to come up with a new name for you then.” He started to think for a minute then grinned, “What about Fang? It’s a cute name.”

The girl just smiles a little and nodded her head, “Alright then I’ll call you Fang and I’m Oil by the way.”

Fang put her hands together and wai him in gratitude “Thank you khun Oil.” She said softly.

“You don’t have to call me khun, p’Oil will do and I’m sure it’s p’ cus you look very young.”

Fang lowered her gaze “kah p’Oil”

Oil chuckled at her shyness and when he got back on the road, Fang sat back and look out the window. From the glare, he can see that she was very much stress in trying to figure out who she is, as he was.

What a way to start out a vacation, Oil thought to himself.

Chapter 2

It’s been two hours now since the incident and they are just about half way to their destination. Oil glance over at his mysterious passenger who was now sleeping peacefully. Who is she, he wondered and how did she happen to be where she was without anything on her, no purse to carry money or identification card. It sure was strange but at the same time, he was a little happy to meet her. If anything, he now has someone to travel with him. Oil really wasn’t a lonely person, it’s just that he’s more into working that any girl who comes into his life tend to not be able to stand it and leave. It was fine with Oil, because he didn’t have any strong feelings for any of them anyways. The last girl he came close to loved had been 7 years ago when he was still studying in America. She was a good girl from a politician family which was why they didn’t make it. Her life was completely different from his. She wanted glamour and luxuries because she was used to that all her lives, but he was fine with just living. So with that and with sadness they went their separate ways.

Fang started to wake up and Oil reached over to turn the radio down, “Have a good rest?” he asked her when she fully woke up.

Blushingly she nodded and look around to see where they were. “We’re just about half way to Chiang Mai.” He told her. “Have you been to Chiang Mai?”

Fang gave him a blank look, “I don’t know.” She answered.

Oil smack himself on the forehead, “Oh duh, you don’t remember.” He chides himself. How can you be so forgetful and dumb Oil, he thought to himself. “Well it’s a pretty place and the weather will tend to be a little colder then the city at this time of the year.” He told her then glance over at her, “I think we’re going to have to get you some warmer clothes because that dress of yours is pretty thin, you might get sick.”

Fang just nodded and Oil sighed, “Don’t worry about it, your memories will come back to you in no time then after that I promise to take you home ok. Just think of this as a vacation.”

Oil saw a sign that point him out to the next major town and he decided to exit, “We’ll get something to eat cus I don’t know about you but I’m pretty starve, then we’ll find you some clothes. Is that alright?” he asked her and she just nodded. Oil chuckles, “Boy you really don’t talk much, do you? I wonder if your real self is like this.”

Fang sighed, “I wonder the same. I wonder who I am, where I came from but the more I think the more lost I am.” She said quietly.

Oil reached over and pat her hand without realizing what he was doing, “Don’t think too much or you’ll make yourself sick. When it wants to come back it’ll come back. Maybe if you just let nature take its course, you’ll remember in no time. So smile, I haven’t seen you smile yet and I would like to know how your real smile really looks like.” He said, trying to cheer her up.

As he was talking, Fang was staring at his hand, patting her. Oil finally realize what he was doing and jerk his hand back, “Oops, sorry I didn’t meant to take advantage of you.” He apologized.

Fang gave him a questioning look, “You were taking advantage of me?” she asked.

Oil laughed, “I guess you lost more knowledge then I thought.”

“huh?”

Oil stop laughing and scratch his head, “Um what I meant was, and I’m very sure of this, is that you are probably a good girl and allowing a guy to touch you is an improper thing.” He explained with a little difficulty.

“Patting my hand is improper?” she asked.

Oil was silent for a second, “Um yeah if you’re a Thai girl.” He answered.

“Oh.”

Oil frowned, “You really don’t know do you?” he asked her and she shook her head. “Wait, did you loose your memory before I met you and please don’t lie to me.”

Fang glance away from him and thought for a minute then back at him, “I don’t even know that either, because I don’t even know anything before waking up and seeing you.” She told him.

“Hmm, well anyways, I’m sure am glad it was me who you came upon because if it was any other guys, they might take advantage of this situation.” He told her.

Fang made an O with her lip and he thought she looks adorable, “And why wouldn’t you?” she asked innocently.

Oil almost slammed on the break but luckily he didn’t because there was a car right behind him, what a mess that would be. “Don’t ever ask that with anyone else.” He told her, still shocked at her question.

“Um ok.” She answered.

They both sat in silence when Oil pulled up to a street restaurant. After their food arrived, they couple at the next table started to talk about a waterfall that was only 3 miles away.

Oil glanced over at Fang who was looking in her bowl, stirring her food around. “Not to your taste?” he asked.

Fang looks up at him, “I don’t know.” She answered.

Oh man, don’t tell me she forgot what food is or looks like too, he said to himself. “This is noodles and it’s really good if you put some spice in it.” He told her as he reach for the spices and add it to her bowl then stir it for her. “Try some.”

Fang pick up the noodles with her chopstick and it fell back down into the bowl and splashed her eyes, “Ouch” she cried then tried to rub her eyes but Oil pulled her hand away first.

“No, you’re not suppose to do that else it will be even worst.” He told her as he grabbed the paper towel and dabbed the corner of her eyes. “Now slowly open it and blink a few time, it’ll wash it out.”

Fang did as he told and it did feel a little better, even that she could not remember and it was stressing her out. Oil could see it too. “Hey don’t worry about it. Here use a fork, it’s easier.” He told her as he clean off the fork and put it into her bowl.

Fang thank him, and tried her food again. “Is it good?” he asked and she nodded. “Well then eat up cus I think I’m going to take you to the waterfall but after we go shopping for your clothes tho.” He told her.

“Waterfall?”

“Yeah, I just heard the people talking about it, they said it’s pretty.”

After they finished eating, Oil took her to buy some clothes. After paying the cashier he hand one of the small bags to her. “Thank you, I don’t know how I’m going to repay you. Hopefully I do have money when I remember so I can pay you back.” She told him.

“Oh don’t worry about it.” He told her. “At least you remember what money is.”

Fang lowered her gaze shyly, “Actually I asked the lady when she helped me in the dressing room.” She confessed.

Oil laughed, “That’s pretty smart.”

Oil drove them to the waterfall but they found out that they have to hike to the waterfall. Luckily he brought some good walking shoes and also bought her one too. He park the car just outside of the trail next to the security and put all the drinks and snacks he bought at the gas station and also at the shopping area into his backpack and some extra clothes for both of them incase they get wet.

They began to hike to the waterfall, luckily it was already bright out so he doesn’t need a flash light. He kept glancing over at Fang who was studying her surroundings. She looks at peace and doesn’t have a line of stress in her eyes anymore. They hike for another 2 miles before Oil hear the sound of the waterfall. “I hear the water now. Are you tired yet?” he asked her and she shook her head. He chuckles.

When they reach the waterfall, they both stood there for a moment to soak in their beautiful surroundings. “The weather is nice out here. Are you cold?” He asked. Fang turns to him and smile then shook her head. “Ok we gotta do something about your body language. No more shaking or nodding. You have to talk ok.”

Fang started to nod but caught herself, “sorry.”

“I don’t think we should play in the water just yet because it’s still morning and the water might be freezing. Why don’t we find some dry branches to set up camp.” He suggested.

Oil had planned on staying just for a few hours at first but then he thought she might need some time to relax which might help her remember so he called his grandmother while Fang was in the dressing room to tell her that he’ll be a day or two delayed then he went to buy a tent and two sleeping bags for them to camp out here.

As Oil was pulling out the tent from the bag, Fang started to look for twigs. At least she remembers what twigs are, he thought.

Fang threw all the branches and twigs she could find into one pile then went over to help Oil, “Do you need any help?” she asked as she took one end of the tent from him and they unrolled it.

“Do you know how to set up a tent?” he kid.

“Um no.” she answered and he just laugh.

By the time they finished with setting up camp, the weather was getting a lot warmer. Oil check his watch and saw that they were approaching noon. “I think the water should be warmer now if you want to wash up but if it’s cold, don’t get in ok.” He told her.

Fang nodded happily head for the water.

“Stay close and yell if you need any help!” he shouted after her as he threw all the bags into the tent and close it up then went to look for a big enough rock to move over so they could sit on.

Just as he was doing that, he heard a big splashed and Fang screaming. “FANG!”

Chapter 3

Oil ran as fast as he can toward the river, his heart was beating rapidly from fright. “Oh god please be ok.” He muttered to himself as he reached the river and saw that Fang was in the middle of the stream with her hand waving above the water and her head popping up and down.

“Help” she manage to scream every time she come out of the water but something below kept pulling her down. I am going to die, Fang thought to herself but then an arm came around her waist and she was pulled up to a hard body and out of the water. She started to choke and gasped deeply for air.

“I got you.” He said close to her ears as they swam up to shore. Oil lift her up onto land then lift himself out of the water.

Fang fell backward and started to spurt water from her mouth. Oil pulled her up to a sitting position and started to rub her back, “Put your face down so you can cough up the water.” He instructed.

Fang did as he instructed and her coughing started to slow down, “Better?” he asked.

“Yes, thank you.” She nodded slowly, still coughing a little.

Oil sighed with relief and shook his head, “Ever since I met you, it’s just one mishap after another.” He joked.

Fang started to tear up, “I’m sorry that I’ve been such a problem.”

“No no, I don’t mean it like that.” He hurried to fix his foul mouth. “I was just trying to cheer you up.” He explained. He then saw how she started to shiver and helped her up, “I think you need to get out of this wet clothes and close to the fire to dry out as soon as possible or else you’ll get a chill.”

Oil took Fang back to camp and told her to go inside the tent to change out of her wet clothes. About 10 minutes later, Fang came out of the tent, all dry but still a little pale. He took her hand and led her to the fire, “Sit here close to the fire so that your hair can dry out a little.” He instructed. When she sat down, Oil went back into the tent and grabbed a clean towel then sat down behind her.

Fang tried to take the towel from him but he wouldn’t let her, “You can’t even seem to stop shaking, so just wrap your arms around yourself and I’ll dry your hair for you.” He said nicely as he wrapped the towel around her wet hair and start to dry them gently.

“Thank you.” She managed to say as she was trembling from the cold.

After Oil felt that her hair was dry enough and notice Fang stop her trembling, he asked her if she was up to it to go for a little stroll. Fang agreed. Oil grabbed a jacket for her and they went on a little hike. Oil showed her all the beautiful flowers and told her the name of each. As she was admiring the yellow cattaleeya orchid, Oil reached past her and plucked one off the tree. He then placed it behind her ears.

“Pretty.” He told her and she blushed. “I meant the flower.” he joked and Fang burst out laughing. It was now his turn to blush.

As they were heading back to their camp, Oil found some guava tree, and pluck them a couple of ripe ones. When they reached camp, he excused himself to go wash up.

When he got back, he saw that there was another couple making camp right next to theirs and Fang was over there talking to them.

“Oh that hi.” The lady waved when she saw him approaching them. “You must be p’Oil.” She greeted.

The gentleman extended his hand to Oil and they shook hand. They introduce themselves as Pon, Oun. They were also vacationing and hope he doesn’t mind that they set up camp near them.

“Oh no it’s fine. I’m glad to have friends around.” Oil told them.

“Your wife just told me that you guys just came today too.” Oun said to him. Oil turns to Fang with a questioning look. “Oh she didn’t introduce me as your wife, I just thought you two are husband and wife.” She explained.

Fang turns to Oil, frowning, “What’s..”

Oil put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her up against him, “Yes you got it right. We just got married.” He told them and they beamed.

“You’re lucky to have such a cute wife khun Oil and congratulations on the marriage.” Pon told him.

Fang still did not understand, “p’Oil, what is…” she started to ask again but he just started to laugh.

“Sweety, why don’t you go grab the bags of food so we can share it with them.” He suggested and Fang nodded then left to do just that.

Later that night after they had their dinner, Pon brought out his guitar and asked Oil if he could play. “Um I’m not very good at it.” Oil told him.

“Oh it’s ok khun Oil, neither am I but we just play for fun, to have some music.” He told him.

“Alright, just don’t throw rocks at me if your head start to hurt ok.” He kid and he started to play “Ror Rak”

Everyone quietly listen to the sound of his soothing voice and the sweet melody.

Fang glance from his face to the ambers dancing in the camp fire, her heart started to feel warm as his voice travels throughout her body. She didn’t even realize that the song ended until Oil poked her in the arm.

“huh?” she jumped a little.

“Wow was my voice that bad that you had to tune it out.” He asked.

“oh no, your voice actually made me feel very warm inside.” She told him bluntly and he was speechless. He know she didn’t realize what she just said, but it didn’t matter cus it made him happy. Until he realize they were not alone and he started to blush a little.

“Aww p’Pon, isn’t that sweet. They are so sweet to each other. I can really feel the love.” Oun squealed sweetly.

“Sweetie, why don’t we leave them alone now. I’m sure they want to be alone.” Pon told his wife.

“Oh um you don’t have to go.” Oil stuttered, feeling a little shy.

“No it’s ok, we’re going to take a little walk before we turn in anyways.” Pon told them.

“Good night nong Fang, nong Oil.” Oun cooed.

“Good night.” Oil said back to her and Fang repeated him.

After they were left alone, Oil didn’t know what to say or do. “Sleepy?” he asked when she started to yawn a little.

“I think so.” She answered.

“Well um, I bought two sleeping bags.” He told her as he got up. He then held his hand out to her and helped her up. “Don’t worry, you can trust me.”

Fang frown because she did not understand what he meant so she just said “Ok.”

They went into the tent and Oil help her into the bag then cover her with a blanket before zipping her up. “Comfortable?” he asked and she nodded. “Ok um good night, sweet dreams.”

Fang smiled then drift off to sleep. Oil got into his sleeping bag and turn off the lantern but he did not sleep. He laid there listening to the sound of her slow soft breathing. About an hour of tossing and turning went by, he heard a moan, and it was Fang. He quickly got up and turned on the lantern. Fang was sweating and shaking in her sleeping bag. He got out of his and scoots over to her. He felt her flushed face and found that it was pretty hot.

She must have gotten sick because of her accident earlier today. He got out of the tent and ran over to p’Pon and p’Oun’s tent. “p’Pon.” He called out. “p’Oun.”

Pon open the ten and poke his sleepy head out, “What is it Oil?”

“Do you have any medicine? Fang has a fever. I think it’s because she fell into the river earlier.” He explained.

“Hold on.” Pon answered then slip back into his tent. After about a minute, he came out and hand Oil a small bag of medicine. “One is for fever, and the other one cold. Also Oun said to wipe her with a damp towel to bring down the fever.”

“Thank you p’Pon.” Oil told him.

“If you need anything just yell.”

“Ok thank you.” He said as he ran back to his tent.

Oil grab the bottle of water from his backpack and sat Fang up, “Take this, it’ll help.” He told her.

After she took her medicine, Oil pour some water into a clean towel then began to wipe her face, neck, and arms but she still wouldn’t stop shaking.

There was only one thing left to do, get her warm up. “I’m sorry but it’s to help you.” He said quietly then unzipped her sleeping bag all the way then took off his shirt. He grabbed his blanket and put it on top of hers then got under the cover. He drew her into his arms, with her face resting in the crook of her neck and hugs her tightly. Sometime later, he knew she warmed up because she stopped shaking and was sleeping peacefully. He relaxed a little as he rest his chin on top of her head and held her a little bit tighter. He just barely met this girl and already she felt special to him. He doesn’t know what it is, but he knows it’ special. She’s special. With her in his arms, Oil drifted off to sleep with a smile on his face.

Chapter 4

Fang woke up the next morning feeling very warm. When she opens her eyes, she found that she was under two blanket, alone in the tent. She could hear the bird chirping outside and people talking. She started to stretch and rub her eyes and laid there for a moment. As she was laying there she noticed a scent from her pillows, it was his scent. She turns her nose to breathe in the fragrance and sure it was the smell of fresh soap, p’Oil’s scent. Fang started to frown because she did not understand.

As she was getting up, Oil came into the tent with a cup of steaming tea. “Awake? How are you feeling?” he asked.

“Ok, a little tired.” She answered with a soft smile.

“You had a fever last night.” He told her as he put his hand up against her cheeks, “I think you will be ok now. We should leave today; I don’t want your fever to come back again tonight.”

“Ok.”

Oil hand her the steaming cup of tea, “Here drink this, I crush some medicine in it but it’s not too bitter. You’ll feel better in no time.”

After Fang drank her tea and washed up, they packed their belongings, said goodbye to the other couple and left.

After driving for about an hour or so, Fang turns to Oil, “p’Oil ka, why was your scent on my pillow?” she asked bluntly.

“Um, uh.” Oil started to stammered. He didn’t think she would be this blunt with her questions. He started to wonder if this was her real self, straight and blunt. “Well um you were really sick last night and uh shivering so I had to warm you up by hugging you. Sorry.”

“Oh ok.” Fang said quietly, sorta understanding. “Thank you.”

Oil was at lost for words. If it was any other girl, she wouldn’t be saying ‘thank you’, instead she probably would either pretend to cry or act shy. With that he started to feel a little guilty. Oil pulled over to the side of the road and gave her his full attention, “Fang”

“Yes?” she answered.

“Just because you don’t remember who you are or remember what should be allowed or not allowed does not mean I can take advantage of you like that. I want you to know that I don’t think of you as a girl from the street. The very short time that I met you, I feel you are special.” He told her but Fang looks clueless as to what he was trying to say. Oil reached over and pat her hand, “What I’m trying to say is, until you remember who you are. I will take care of you and when you remember, however long that will be, you can choose whether you want to stay with me or go back to who you really are and to the people waiting for you. Okay?”

Fang still really didn’t understand but something about the way he looks at her was different. She felt as if she should know that look, that the look he’s giving her is the look she’s searching for.

“You don’t have to answer me, just let time play it’s course ok.” He added and she just nodded, “But don’t ever feel that I will leave you.”

Oil cupped her cheek with his hand and trace the outline of her jaw with his thumb then leaned over and laid a soft kiss on her temple. Then he put the car back into gear and started to drive again as Fang touch her cheek where he touched her and started to feel tingles.

They arrived at Oil’s ranch sometime in the late afternoon. His grandmother was very happy to see him and even happier that he brought a girl home, even if she really doesn’t know who she is.

“It’s ok sweetie, everything will come back to you in no time. So in the meantime just enjoy life and know that you have a very great guy to take care of you.” His grandmother told her and then wink.

Fang could not help but started to laugh. Oil showed Fang around the ranch and even took her horseback riding. At first she was afraid when he put her up on the horse but then when he climb on behind her and her back touched his firm chest, she began to relax and felt very safe. He took her on the trail along the stream and showed her all the beautiful orchids his parents planted together when they first got married.

As time went by and they grew closer to the point where Oil almost wish she can’t ever remember. He knows it’s selfish, but love can be selfish, can it not?

Fang was sitting out in the patio with his grandmother arranging flowers when Oil came out to sit with them.

“What are you two beautiful ladies doing out under the stars?” he asked as he took the seat next to Fang. “It’s pretty, who is it for?” he asked her.

Fang didn’t answer, she just smile and his grandmother cleared her throat loudly. “Not for you darling.” She answered.

Oil pouted at his grandmother, “No longer love me grandma?” he teased.

His grandmother snorted, “You no longer need my love, right Fang?” she teased back and Fang lower hear eyes and started to blush which cause his grandmother to chuckle then she started to get up. “Well, it’s late so I’m going to turn in now.” She announced and Fang started to get up but she shook her head. “No no, sit out here with p’Oil and enjoy the night. Just don’t forget tomorrow we’re going to the temple ok.”

“yes grandma.” They both answer.

After his grandmother went into the house, Oil took advantage of no one around to slip his arms around her waist and pull her into his arms. “Stop, someone will see.” She chides him.

Oil took in her sweet aroma and kiss her quickly on the neck causing her to giggle, “I don’t care if anyone see. I want to show you my love.” He told her and gave her another kiss on the cheeks. He then turn her around so that she can lay back in his arms and they both relax, “I want to stay like this forever. I hope this is not a dream. I don’t know what I would do if I wake up and you are no longer here.” He said sadly.

“I’m not going anywhere.” She told him.

“Do you promise? What if you wake up one day and remember, would you leave me?” he asked her.

“I would not leave you nor my feelings for you will end.” She promised.

The next day Fang and Oil went to the temple with his grandmother to give merit. After they were done, on their way out to the car a monk passed by and stop in front of them. He look at Fang and said “When heaven permits, don’t let time pass by and end with regrets.” and walks away.

Oil and Fang looks at one another with question, “What did he mean by that grandma?” Oil asked.

“Maybe he hinting it’s time for you to get marry.” His grandmother teased and Oil started to smile while Fang blushed.

That night, Oil went into Fang’s room while she was showering. When she came out wrapped in her robe, she was startled to see Oil there. “Did you need something p’Oil?” she asked.

Oil got up from the bed and went over to her. He drew her into his arms and held her, “Fang, I know we haven’t known each other for long. I know we’ve only met 3 weeks ago but I want you to know, p’ rak Fang nah.”

Fang didn’t know what to say. Three weeks ago she didn’t even know anything, not her name, not who she is, not who he is, not even that there is such thing as this feeling called love. Fang closed her eyes and savor the moment, as if it was going to slip out of her arms in just a few seconds.

Oil lift her chin up so he can look into her eyes, “Rak maak douy. Be with me.” He whispered then bent his head and took her mouth in his. He kissed her deeply, it was the first time he ever kissed her like this. He told himself before that he wouldn’t take advantage of her like this, at least not until she remembers and choose to stay with him but for some reason, he felt this is the right time.

They both got lost in the warmth of passion, in the flames of love. Oil scoops her up in his arms and took her to the bed. He laid her down and joined her there. He took her into his arms and let their love lead the way.

As Fang was sleeping, she started to dream. It was a rainy day when she was driving back from dropping off her sister at the airport in the city. A truck behind her got into the incoming lane and sped up to try to past her. Fang started to slow down to let him past but it was too late, another truck was heading their way. The truck that was trying to past her swerve back into lane and cause her to swerve away to avoid him hitting her. Her car went heads on into the light post next to the gas station and her car burst into flame, she was killed immediately.

Next thing she knows it, there were clouds of fogs all around her. It was no longer raining but the sun was shining brightly, she was warmed. Fang look around her and people were everywhere, wearing white. They were all heading one way and Fang started to follow them, lost and confused. They came to a gated door and standing in front of the door was the most beautiful lady she ever saw in her life. Her hair was long and golden, perfectly cascading behind her. Fang approached her and the lady smile at her.

“Fang, it’s nice to see you hear.” She said in a sweet melodic voice.

“Where am I?” Fang asked.

“Heaven.”

Fang was shocked, “Heaven? Then that means…”

The kind lady smile at her with a little sympathy, “Yes sweety, you died.”

Fang shook her head in denial and started to cry, “NO! It can’t be. I can’t die. I have not begun to even live! I can’t die!”

“I’m sorry sweety, your time was up.” She told her.

Fang still shook her head, refusing to believe, “It can’t be up.” She cried with warm tears flowing down her cheeks. “I can’t die. I don’t even know what love is. I never even had a life.”

The lady sighed with understanding, “A life is not worth remembering even in death if a life has never been through love.”

Fang sank down to the floor, covering her face with her hands. The lady pat her on the shoulder to comfort her, “There there my child, do not cry. I tell you what. I will allow you one last chance to find and experience love.”

Fang raised her head to look at the lady and saw that she was serious. Fang wiped her eyes and stood up, “However there are rules. If you agree to these rules, I will put you back on earth to find love.”

“What are the rules?” Fang asked her.

“I will put you back on earth as a real human with your souls in tact but without your past, without knowing who you are or where you came from but your true personality will still be yours and present. That person has to love you by how he found you and you must love him with no condition. You of course will not know what love is suppose to be about since you died without knowing true love.” She told her, “And the saddest part of all is, the moment you both feel true love, give one another love. That will be the end of it and you will be back here once more but with the memories of what love was.”

“You mean I will get the chance to find true love but then I will have to leave that love?” she asked.

“Yes, that is the only way I can let you go back.”

Fang turns away, she can’t do that. It’s not fair to herself and most definitely her true love but love is better then no love, is it not? Fang gathered her courage and turn back to the lady. “Alright I agree.”

The lady smile to her and told her to close her eyes.

Fang woke up with a sudden jolt. She remembers, she fully remembers. She turns to look at Oil and tears sprang to her eyes. Life is so cruel, fate is so cruel. She finally learned what love is and now she has to leave.

The lady in her dream materialize at the foot of the bed, “Fang, it’s time to go.” She told her gently.

Fang closed her eyes against the burning pain in her heart then open it once more and nodded. She glance at her love again and touched his cheeks, savoring the moment, tracing his face, breathing in his scent. She wants to take every detail of him with her. “If fate is not so cruel, I pray that every lifetime from this point on, I will search for you and I will not love another.” She whispered then got up out of bed as her white gown that she wore when she first met him, materialize on her body. Then seconds later, she was gone as Oil woke up.

He turns to his left, and she was not in bed. He sat up, and then glanced at the clock on the wall, it was only 6am.

“Fang, are you in the bathroom?” he called out but no answer.

Oil then got up out of bed and look in the bathroom, she was not there. He figured she might be outside with his grandmother or something so he put on his robe and went outside to search for her, she was no where to be found.

That day, with much dishearten, he searched for her everywhere. No one saw her. It was as if she disappeared. He even wondered if she remembered who she was and decided to leave him. He was heart broken and lost. Two days went by and still no sign of her. He said goodbye to his grandmother and head back to the city, a dead man. He even stop by the waterfall just incase she was there, but she wasn’t. He then searched the area where they first met, no one knew her. He even went to the police station and showed them her picture that they took together on one of their many horse back riding but the police does not recognize her at all.

When Oil got back to the city, he took out an ad for her, promising rewards if anyone know any information on her. He would not give her up because she meant too much, at least he wanted answers as to why she left without even a goodbye. Days turn into weeks and weeks turns into months, there were many phone calls but they were all false information. Just as Oil was about to give up hope, he received a phone call from someone named Noon. She made an appointment to meet him at his office.

At 1pm, Noon came to see him at his office. “Please sit down khun Noon.” Oil told her.

“Thank you.” She said to him, “Alright, I’m not going to beat around the bush. I came to see you because of this article in the newspaper that my friend faxed to me in America.” She said as she took out the paper and put it in front of him. It was Fang’s picture that he place in the ads.

“Do you know her?” Oil asked, having a little hope.

“The question is, how do you know her and why did you put out an ad in search for her? What are you trying to do?” she asked him in a not too happy tone.

“I mean no harm khun Noon. I love this girl and I only want to find her. She disappeared from my ranch a couple of months ago.” He explained, “Please if you know Fang and know where she is, tell me. I really want to find her. I want to ask her to marry me.”

Noon really saw how sincere he is, but what does he mean a couple of months ago. What joke is he playing at? “Did you say a couple of months ago?” she repeated and he nodded.

Oil sat back in his chair and his mind drift off, “Yes, we met a couple of months ago. She lost her memories and I took her to my grandmother’s ranch up in Chiang Mai. We fell in love. I’m sure she loves me too but then one morning she just vanish.” He said sadly.

“It’s impossible!” Noon shouted as she stood up. “I don’t know what you are playing at khun Oil but Fang, my sister, has been dead for over a year now!”

“What?!” Oil said in shock as he stood up and shook his head, “No, then we can’t be talking about the same Fang.” He assured her.

Noon then nod in agreement, “Yes you must be right. We can’t be talking about the same Fang even if they do look exactly alike. My Fang, died of a car accident a year ago. Her car hit a telephone pole near a gas station between Sing Buri and Chainat. The said she died on impact. It was sad times but at least we buried her next to our parents at the temple a few blocks from here.” She told him then sighed sadly. “Well I’m sorry to waste your time. I’ll be going now.” She said then left.

Oil was still shocked and didn’t even realize she left, “Car accident near a gas station between Sing Buri and Chainat.” He muttered to himself, that was where he first met Fang. Oil collapsed on the chair. “It’s impossible, she was real. His Fang was real”

Oil left the office and went to the temple where khun Noon mention that her sister was buried and he searched the grave yard. He looked and looked, but he could not find her then a sudden wind hit him from the left and the turn to it. There she was, smiling at him from the gravestone. He slowly walks towards it and her beautiful face and smile as he remembers it became clearer. It was really her. His Fang. With tears running down his cheeks and confusion running through his mind, Oil touched her face, “It is you, how was it possible? You felt so real, you were real. How could you already be dead?” But without a doubt, the picture of the girl smiling at him was her, definitely her. He felt it in his heart. He also know it in his heart that the girl he met a couple of months ago, the girl in his arms, the girl he came to love and made love to was real. Oil slumped down on the ground and cried for his lost love.
