The crisis in Japan caused a short supplies of Japanese made car so people in America are shouting "Time to buy American!"....
I'm looking for a new car right now and did see an increase at the dealer, haven't been to any American dealership yet cus I don't know if i will buy GM due to being disgusted on how they got bailed out by Obama.
Would you buy American?

OK I'm kind of an "insider" cuz I've been working in this industry for a few yrs and some US & Japan big makers are my clients...
If I can choose, 1st option will be European cars. Stable, safe, cuz they have to follow the most strict standards.
Japan cars tend to be more fuel-economic, while US cars tend to be more spacious. (not surprising, gasoline is expensive in Japan, and US customers normally have big body-size, or bigger household/supplies to squeeze into the car)
But Japan car-makers have the notorious reputation of hiding problems, just like the Toyota case, and the recent nuclear plant case. It's Japanese' "culture" to cover it. US makers are better, not because of they are short of problems, but ppl there tend to expose the problem earliers to protect themselves (so anything happened in the future, they can claim that this is a "known issue" and they are not responsible for it).
So if you choose a Japan car, my suggestion is to choose those "plain" models. no fancy racing car features, and have been tested by millions of users for decades.

I've drove Japanese made cars for over 10 years and never had problems with any, never had to get anything replace or fix... My first car was a toyota, never had ANY problem with it.. then after that i had a couple of lexus, i had my is300 for 5 years and mine never had any technical problems either but then again i took great care of it, get oil change and service on it when the time comes, never lag in that department.... none of my friends or people i know had problems with their toyotas either.. I do have some friends who own american cars and they always complain about something, always got something recalled...
I was thinking of an Evo but the seats feels a bit uncomfortable, fast car though.. and i really like the Z4 but a bit pricey
